Product Review: Detail.co Microfiber Wash vs. Rags2Riches

Note: This is my personal opinion based on my experience and testing. Your results may vary. This is not meant to criticize Detail.co; it’s a solid product, in my humble opinion.

I’ve shared my microfiber wash care routine a few times on the board. My process differs from many others, and some might disagree with my methods, which I’ll explain below.

My Process:

I always keep a 5-gallon bucket or large tub to toss my microfiber towels into as I use them. In this bucket or tub, I mix water with rinseless wash at a standard dilution of 256:1. For me, this keeps my microfiber towels in great shape and serves as a good pre-soak before laundering.

When washing my microfiber towels, I always separate them. As a general rule, I keep low-pile towels separate from plush towels and wash similar types together. Note that I completely separate certain towels, such as drying towels and glass towels, washing only those types together.

For washing my towels, I always use hot water with 2-4 oz of microfiber cleaner and 6 oz of distilled white vinegar. This softens the microfiber without clogging it, boosts cleaning power, and helps with odors. If my towels are particularly dirty, I’ll add an additional 4 oz of white vinegar in the fabric softener slot during the rinse cycle. (Never use fabric softener with microfiber towels.) I also always select the extra rinse setting on my machine.

I tumble dry my towels with no heat or on “low” heat only. Air fluff is ideal, but in the past, I’ve had machines that only offered low heat and experienced no issues. For drying towels, I often choose low heat to speed up the process.

That’s my method. I’ve used this with Rags2Riches for a long time, but I recently purchased a gallon of Detail.co Microfiber Wash to compare. For the past month, I’ve done one load with Rags2Riches followed by a load with Detail.co, alternating the towels I used with each cleaner. Here are my results:

First, both products do an excellent job. My towels came out really clean, even those with stains or heavy dirt, thanks in part to the pre-soak.

However, I’m very particular about my microfiber towels and careful about which ones I use based on type and condition. The main difference I noticed is that the towels washed with Rags2Riches feel significantly softer and more absorbent. Several loads of Detail.co towels didn’t feel nearly as soft or absorbent after washing. It seems to me that Detail.co may not wash out sealants and protectants as effectively. While my towels are clean and in good condition for their intended use, I noticed a clear difference. This is just my humble opinion.

Moving forward, I will continue to use Rags2Riches. Detail.co isn’t bad and may work well for you, but for me, there’s a clear winner. This is based on my experience, and my method wasn’t scientific. I just wanted to share my results.
